Three nabbed for cheating

Three men have been arrested in Fatehpur Beri, south Delhi for allegedly cheating people on the pretext of selling them a gold brick, police said on Thursday.

A country-made pistol, two live cartridges and a fake gold brick have been recovered from the possession of Shahid, 24, Liyakat Ali, 44, and Khurshid, 45.

All of them are residents of Haryana’s Mewat district, were held on Tuesday, when vehicles were being checked in Fatehpur Beri area due to recent criminal activities of Mewati gangs in the Capital. Around 12.15 am, an SUV coming from the Haryana side was intercepted.  

“As soon as the vehicle stopped at the picket, three persons who were sitting in the car got down and started running towards the Ridge area. We acted swiftly and caught the driver of the car, while two others fled to the forest area. The driver was identified as Khurshid,” said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south).

An intensive hunt was made to locate the absconding persons, and it led to the arrest of Shahid and Liyakat.

They confessed that they used to cheat people by offering to sell a gold brick, but the brick was fake.  They were going to Paharganj to sell the fake gold brick. They  disclosed that they used to carry a country-made pistol.
