Kanda hospitalised in jail

He complained of pain due to high blood pressure

After falling ill in prison, former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda was shifted to the jail hospital in the city on Thursday.

“He was suffering from high blood pressure before he came to the jail. His complained of pain following which doctors advised to shift him to the hospital,” said Tihar Jail spokesperson Sunil Gupta.

Gupta said he is still hospitalised and doctors are monitoring his health. Kanda is lodged in Rohini Jail after city court sent him for 14 days judicial remand. Kanda was sent to prison on Tuesday after a 10-day police custody in the case. Kanda, after evading police for 13 days, surrendered to police after High Court rejected his bail plea.

The 46-year-old MDLR group owner is accused of abetment to suicide after Geetika Sharma, found hanging from a ceiling fan in her house in Ashok Vihar on August 5. In her two-page suicide note, she mentioned that Kanda was responsible for her death.

Geetika, 23, a former flight attendant of the now defunct MDLR Airlines owned by Kanda, had accused him and his employee Aruna Chaddha of harassing her and forcing her to commit suicide.
