Palike to swap Kalasipalya bus stand with BMTC

Last Updated 31 August 2012, 19:42 IST

Running short of landfills, the BBMP has decided to swap the Kalasipalya bus stand land with the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) to procure 212 acres from the latter to set up dumpyards.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Palike Commissioner Rajneesh Goel said the deal was almost through and would be finalised in the next two days.

“We have agreed on the deal related to bus stand and a few additional lands will be handed over to the BMTC in exchange for their property,” said Goel.

The four-acre Kalasipalya bus stand is located in the heart of the City. The land has been with the BBMP since the bus stand came up there. Dotted with commercial spaces, the bus stand has long been awaiting renovation to generate revenue for the Palike. However, the current garbage crisis has left the Palike with no option but to swap the land with BMTC.

According to the Palike commissioner, along with the four acres of the bus stand, an additional eight acres of land will also be handed over to the BMTC.
