The State-run Jungle Lodges and Resorts on Wednesday forcibly took possession of its property in Gokarna, evicting staff of Kairali Ayurveda, which was said to be operating unauthorisedly for over a year.

JLR’s executive director R K Singh told Deccan Herald that they had leased the Om Beach property in Gokarna to Kairali in 2004, for a period of seven years. The lease terminated in May 2011 and despite JLR serving five notices, the management of Kairali did not stop operation, said Singh.

“We were forced to physically evict the staff with the help of the district authorities today. JLR will immediately begin operations here. As many as 28 locals are employed at the resort and JLR has given them the option of continuing with us,” he said.

The property spans over 2.5 acres and has 12 cottages. Singh said JLR was keen having more properties on the coast.Besides the Gokarna property, three more properties will come up on the coast.
