Thank God, designs are here

Last Updated 20 September 2012, 13:16 IST

An exhibition, ‘Thank God For Design’ (TGFD)featuring 40 independent Indian labels from various parts of India will showcase the best of their design: fashion, accessories, art and lifestyle.

A two day design extravaganza from September 23-24 at Aga Khan Hall will be the first of its kind Indian-designer showcase in Delhi. The event is a unique platform for young and talented designers and is meant to help them gain some recognition. NIFT alumni and co-owners TGFD  Jasleen Kaur and Supreet Raju will play host to the designers from various design schools of India.

Apart from the stalls, it is also hosting a two day workshop - BYOS (BringYourOwnShoe) by footwear designer, Swati Modo where shoppers can bring their old shoes and give them a makeover under expert guidance. This gives people a chance to understand what shape suits their foot, and suitability of footwear as per occasion.
Hasleen Kaur, Miss India Earth 2011, will grace the event and encourage the talented designers.

According to Jasleen, “It is a celebration of Indian designers, original ideas and creative products. The contemporary Indian design scene has grown rapidly over the past few years but unfortunately it has not received the attention it deserves.”
The idea behind the forum is to bring the Indian designer closer to their audience and making shoppers understand the heart, soul and effort that goes into creating an original product from scratch.

As a part of this initiative, the director owners are bringing together labels that will strike the right chord with Delhiites.

Supreet says this event will be every encouraging for these relatively unknown designers. “These designers are so talented and have their own designs, yet nobody knows them. They don’t have the support and resources to market themselves and some of them even don’t have any shop. So, we decided to promote them and give them a new platform.”

The exhibition is an initiative to make shoppers understand the difference between a real design label and a random re-seller. The designers it showcases are strictly labels with original ideas, designs and products.
