Ananya Dance Festival back in the City

One of the most awaited classical dance festivals in the city is back.  Featuring specially designed group choreographies that light up the majestic Old Fort, Ananya Dance Festival 2012 - a five-day extravaganza – will be held at Purana Qila from October 6 to 10, 7 to 8.30 pm. daily.

The event, in its 11th year now, is organized by the Department of Art, Culture and Languages of the Government of Delhi and SEHER - an arts and culture organisation in association with Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and Doordarshan.

Seher has pioneered the art of presentation of open public cultural events. Ananya is one of their oldest and most popular cultural festivals in Delhi which sees choreographies by eminent dancers set at the world famous Purana Qila.

Creative Director, Ananya, Sanjeev Bhargava says, “In this age of reality television, our heritage and culture needs to be packaged innovatively to make it popular amongst the future generations. Ananya is one such attempt to showcase Indian classical dances in their purest form so that the traditional arts would reach out to more and more people of all ages and strata of society.”

“Delhiites have enjoyed the five-day fest in large numbers year after year. We have also been getting consistent demand from other metros who are longing to witness this site specific festival. This year we are proud that Ananya would be beamed live in every nook and corner of India.”

While one of the greatest achievements of Ananya has been to discover budding artistes and establish their indisputable talent, it has also maintained high standards by featuring established seniors to perform at this annual fest.

This year as well, Saroja Vaidyanathan and her troupe will render a Bharatnatyam recital on October 6, Rani Karnaa and troupe will perform Kathak on 7th, Vijayalakshmi will give a Mohiniattam recital on 8th, Rudraksh Dance Company will perform Odissi on 9th and Shijith Nambiar will perform Bharatanatyam on 10th.

With the audience always spilling over into the aisles at the venue and even into the far off lawns at Purana Qila, Ananya Dance festival is a much awaited event on Delhi’s cultural calendar. Do not
