Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Sunday said the government would soon release Rs one crore as a special grant for the welfare of Ganiga community.

This is in addition to the

Rs five crore assured by B S Yeddyurappa in his capacity as chief minister.
Shettar announced this while laying a foundation for a community hall and a students’ hostel complex being built by Vishwa Ganiga Community Trust near Arishinakunte in Nelamangala taluk.

The chief minister said that, of the Rs five crore promised for the Ganiga (traditional oil extractors) community, Rs two crore has already been released. The rest would be released besides the special grant of Rs one crore. In case more funds are required, the trust can submit its blue print to the government, he added.

Lead role

Shettar said, Ganigas in Gujarat are called Sahus. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who is a Sahu, is an influential leader in the country and is expected to play a lead role at the national level, he said.

He said the credit of identifying backward classes and planning programmes to help them goes to Yeddyurappa. The Opposition parties have been criticising him as ananti-minorities, but he was the one who came out with a special package of Rs 40 crore for the construction of Haj Bhavan and Haj Yatra, Shettar pointed out.

Yeddyurappa said that 10 acres of land and Rs five crore have been sanctioned for the community. The credit goes to Minister B J Puttaswamy, a Ganiga, he said.
