Gaiety and fervour marked the celebrations of the World Tourism Day - September 27, in the Capital. To commemorate the day, Delhi Tourism organised special events at various tourist destinations in the city including our very own Dilli Haat.

On the occasion, Delhi Tourism gave Delhiites a gift of the first recreational area for children at Dilli Haat. Manish Chatrath, Hon’ble Chairman, Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation Ltd. (DTTDC) inaugurated the children’s play area in the presence of G G Saxena, MD and CEO, Delhi Tourism in an impressive gathering.

Seeing the increase in the footfall of families over the years in Dilli Haat, the children’s play area is a welcome move for parents who come to Dilli Haat.

Crowds were drawn towards some scintillating programmes organised by Sahitya Kala Parishad which included performances by the Army Symphony Band and a piano recital by Pradeep Dutta.

Interestingly for foreign tourists the day began with the traditional welcome at the domestic airport along with a free sight-seeing tour for the first couple arriving at Delhi Tourism Information Counter.

The Garden of Five Senses also had a line-up of activities like a film show for children and freebies to 10 visitors. Besides, the passengers of HOHO recieved a treat by getting 50 per cent discount for a week. Free boat rides at India Gate and Purana Qila are also offered as a bonanza during this week long celebration.

Sudhir Sobti, spokesperson for DTTDC termed the event as vibrant and applauded the cultural activities which commemorated the special day.

“We really had a great time and the foreign tourists enjoyed it too. Delhi is now at par with other world class cities after CWG, offering world class facilities to the tourists, so celebrating this day with them made it more special.”
