In a move that can be considered as Maoist resurgence, the red rebels, after a lull of nearly one year, killed two CRPF jawans at Metala forest under Goaltore police station in West Midnapore district on Monday morning.

The incident happened at around 2 am when, acting on a tip-off, nearly 40 CRPF jawans from 186, 184 and 66 battalion were trying to cordon off an area in Metala forest, the Maoists suddenly opened fire and killed 47-year-old CRPF, Assistant Sub-Inspector R N Mahakuddu, and 26 , constable Bijay kumar Reddy.

Though IG, CRPF,  Vivek Sahay who rushed to the spot immediately, put up a brave face but according to the sources in the district police, the Maoist in the last one year have regrouped and this is a strong indication that they have gained enough strength to counter the joint forces.  “It is very unfortunate but this kind of incident will not demoralise the Jawans but it will provide them fresh energy to counter the rebels,” Sahay, who was on the spot said.  “Operation will continue and we will be doing that in close co-ordination with the district police,” Sahay added.
