A woman — who wanted her husband to do something else for living — was assaulted by him for objecting to his business of illicit liquor on Thursday.

She is battling for life at a hospital with her head tonsured and injuries all over her body.
Keraura village resident Shiv Kumar, husband of Manju Devi (name changed), has an illicit liquor trade and Manju did not like it.

She always wanted him to switch over his business, according to police. They often used to fight over this issue, but on Thursday Shiv turned furious and threw tantrums ar her over her character.

With the help of his brother, Shiv thrashed her hanging her upside down. Then he rubbed chilli flakes in her bruises and private parts.

Locals rushed to rescue her and took her to her parental home, from where she was admitted to hospital.Manju’s family members alleged that police made them wait for several hours at the police station for lodging a complaint.

They also alleged that police tried to force a compromise on her as they received a lot of money from the illicit liquor traders in the area.

Taking a serious view of the matter, the government on Friday suspended two policemen and removed the station in-charge on charges of laxity. An inquiry has also been ordered into the matter.
