Protests continue against CRA decision

After observing bandh on Saturday, various organisations, including cooperative societies and milk producers’ union took to the streets on Sunday, protesting the order of Cauvery River Authority (CRA) to release water to Tamil Nadu.

Organisations, including Mysore-Chamarajanagar Milk Producers’ Union, district Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Brahmana Yuva Vedike, staged protests here.

Demanding that the release of water be stopped immediately, members of cooperative societies took out a rally from Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple through prominent roads of the city.

Karnataka Housing Board chairman G T Devegowda and district cooperative union president H V Rajeev led the rallies. Women protestors displayed empty pots as part of the protest. The rally concluded at the deputy commissioner’s office.

Members of Mysore-Chamarajanagar Milk Producers’ Union gathered at Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple and shouted slogans against the CRA’s decision. They said the farmers would suffer due to the release of water to Tamil Nadu. The state is reeling under drought and if water is continously released the situation will worsen. They warned of intensifying the agitation if the government failed to stop the release of water. Mysore-Chamarajanagar Milk Producers’ Union managing director Suresh Babu participate in the protest.

Members of the district Kannada Sahitya Parishat staged a protest opposite Gandhi statue in the city on Sunday. They formed a human chain and agitated against the CRA’s decision.
