A 15-year-old girl was killed in a road accident on a flyover behind Indira Gandhi Indoor stadium in central Delhi on Sunday evening, police said. While police said it was a mishap, the victim’s family alleged that their daughter was kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and then killed.

A case of negligent driving causing death was registered at IP Estate police station. Police said the victim went for a ride with her friend Raja, who had picked her up from her house at Mahavir Park in Azadpur. Raja came in a Ford Endeavour car which was being driven by his friend Ravi Sekhar. The vehicle belonged to Robin Gupta, a businessman in Azadpur, and Sekhar was his driver.

Sekhar told the businessman that he was taking the vehicle to a service station. But he went for a joyride with his friend Sanjay. On the way to India Gate they picked up Raja, who requested them to take the girl too for the drive, said a police officer.

“They were coming towards ITO through Ring Road when Sekhar lost control on the speeding vehicle and it rammed into the left side railing of the flyover,” said the officer. The girl, who was sitting on the left of the rear seat, suffered critical cut wounds on her face with an iron strip of the car’s window. “She was rushed to Lok Nayak Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries,” said the police officer.

But Anisha’s family members alleged that police were trying to cover up their daughter’s murder. They alleged that their daughter had gone to buy milk, and she went missing.
