In a significant move which seeks to establish a meaningful link between jobseekers and job providers of academic nature, the University Grants Commission (UGC), has developed an academic job portal and has asked all the universities in the country to log on to it to make the purpose of the portal useful and successful.

The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development is said to have strongly advocated for the establishment of an academic job portal in order to meet the long-standing demand from both prospective candidates and higher educational institutions. The new portal is aimed at catering to specific employment and hiring requirements of higher education institutions across the country.

According to UGC, the new portal will serve two constituencies, namely, the jobseekers and employers. While it will help students to create their academic profiles and bring them to the attention of the universities, colleges and other potential employers, it will also enable the employers to post job vacancies for talent hunt. In addition, universities and other institutions, as employers, can also verify National Eligibility Test (NET)-qualified candidates through the same interface.

Numerous parameters

The portal will also provide for browsing, searching and filtering of academic profiles created by qualified candidates on a number of parameters. The new job portal is said to be very useful as it will provide necessary and required information with regard to human resources, equipped with the right qualification for the higher educational institutions requiring them.

The UGC has written to all the vice chancellors / directors of Central Universities, State universities, deemed to be universities, and private universities seeking their help and co-operation in pluralising the academic job portal. The UGC has asked all these institutions to assign an officer who may register by logging on to the portal. The assigned officer will receive alerts from the said portal.

The UGC expects the user-friendly interface of the portal to cater to the needs of both jobseekers and job providers. The UGC has asked all the universities to encourage qualified students to use the portal for creating their academic profiles. It has also requested all the universities  to consider uploading their job advertisements for the academic positions. The address of the newly created academic job portal is: http://www.ugc.ac.in/jobportal
