Nine-day Dasara festivities begin today

The much-awaited 402nd Mysore Dasara 2012 will be inaugurated amid religious fervour atop the Chamundi Hill by Siddeshwara Swami of Jnanayogashrama, Bijapur, on Tuesday.

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, his deputies K S Eshwarappa and R Ashoka, Muzrai, Ports and Inland Water Transport Minister Kota Srinivas Pujari and MLA M Sathyanarayana will participate.

The district adminstration has chalked out several programmes to attract all sections of people. The main junctions in the city have been illuminated and arrangements made for special pujas at important temples as part of Sharannavaratri.

Cultural programmes will be inaugurated by the chief minister on the palace premises at 6 pm.

Shettar and his colleagues will also participate in several programmes, including a magic show at J K auditorium, food fair at CADA office premises, Dasara kusthi at the Dasara exhibition grounds, film festival at Kalamandira, Dasara expo, flower show at Curzon Park and Dasara illumination at K R Circle, between 1 pm and 6 pm on Tuesday.

Adventure sports will be kicked off at Varuna Lake on Wednesday at 9 am.

Kho-kho, kabaddi and women’s volleyball tourneys, cycling competition and kite-flying competition will be part of the celebrations.

The last leg of Dasara, Vijayadashami procession, will be held on October 24. The Nandi dhwaja puja will be performed the same day.
