Civic Centre to welcome film-makers

While the Capital has off late found favours among several filmmakers for shooting their films, if everything goes as per plans, very soon the filmmakers will also have an easy option of capturing the bird’s eye view of the city in their camera.

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation is planning to rent out the top floor of skyscraper Civic Centre – headquarter of the civic body – to people interested in making films and advertisements.

The 28th floor of the Civic Centre gives a spectacular view of Delhi, providing an onlooker clear visibility of the monumental landmarks like Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Lotus Temple, Akshardham and river Yamuna. The floor is currently unused and hence, the civic body has decided to mull the options of opening it for shooting.

While the decision is likely to be taken in a month, the idea is to promote film industry in the Capital apart from generating additional revenue, officials said.

“Being the tallest building, one can clearly see all the major landmarks. This will provide filmmakers an ideal location to picturise the city,” a senior officer said.
NDMC standing committee chairman, Yogendra Chandolia said officials have been instructed to prepare a detailed feasibility report and present it before the committee in a month.

“The top floor will provide ample space and an aerial view of the entire city. We have directed the officials to explore all possibilities while seriously considering the safety aspect. It will be a closed enclosure with glass cover on all sides,” Chandolia said.

Officials said the facility will be useful for aerial shoots which otherwise requires permission from DGCA and security agencies. With several areas in Central and New Delhi areas falling under the no-flying zone, it makes it difficult for the filmmakers to obtain necessary permissions.

Apart from renting out the space, the officials are also considering opening the facility for common people to get a view of the city from the top floor.
