Cop stabbed, two held

Last Updated 25 October 2012, 19:50 IST

Two men stabbed a head constable P G Babu (52), attached to Whitefield Police Station, when he asked them not to obstruct the Dasara procession in the area Wednesday night.

The procession was organised near Ambedkar Nagar Hillock in White Field Wednesday evening.

In the afternoon, however, a tiff broke out between people of two neighbouring villages Pattanduru Agrahara and Nalloorahalli over who would lead the procession. Elders of both the villages and the police decided that Nalloorahalli would lead the procession this year.

As the procession started in the evening, a few men from Nalloorahalli started trouble saying that Pattanduru Agrahara was leading the procession. The men who were drunk assaulted village elders who tried to pacify them.

The police  rushed to the spot and tried to clear the path for the procession. When head constable Babu tried to disperse the group of men, one of them, Ravi, stabbed his right hand with a knife.

Ravi (19) and Nandeesh (22) were arrested while another of the gang escaped.
