East Delhi to have corporation office in all 64 wards

Last Updated 25 October 2012, 20:17 IST

The East Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to set up an integrated ward-level office complex in each of the 64 municipal wards in east Delhi.

Civic body officials said the new offices will help staff working at the ground-level and will also benefit residents, as they will have a corporation office in their backyard. Officials said a representative of every department of the corporation will be available in the office.

“The new offices will have two advantages — ground-level staff will now have a place to assemble and report to work, and residents will not have to visit the zonal offices even for small jobs,” said EDMC commissioner S S Yadav.

Officers like junior engineer (maintenance), junior engineer (electrical), health inspector, section officer of horticulture department, and officers from malaria and sanitation departments, among others, will have their offices in the new complex. The project will be executed in a phased manner.

In this first phase, Yadav has ordered the deputy commissioners of the two administrative zones to identify 10 locations.

“We want to make good office complexes and cut cost so that work will be done in a phased manner. Initially, we decided to come up with offices in five wards each in two zones — Shahadra (south) and (north). I have asked the two deputy commissioners to identify sites,” Yadav said.

Officials said identifying sites and tendering process may be completed soon. “We hope to start construction in the current financial year, and make the offices functional within a year,” Yadav said.  Apart from housing offices of officials, the new facilities will also have citizens’ service bureau.
