The Karnataka High Court has disposed of a habeas corpus petition filed by Ramaiah, the father of JD(S) leader Surendra Babu, accused of killing his TV actress-wife Hemashree, stating that his second son, Jayagopal, had been illegally detained by the police.

As per the court direction, the police produced Ramaiah before Justice D V Shylendra Kumar.
During the hearing, Gopal stated that he was picked up by the police for interrogation on October 18, and on the next day, had released him as he was not involved in the murder case.

“I am an engineer. I went out for some urgent work after the police completed the interrogation. My father had sent a telegram to the High Court on October 19 and later filed a habeas corpus petition on November 3,” he said.

Hearing the plea, Justice Kumar disposed of the plea.
