Gen Singh eyes LS seat

Last Updated 17 November 2012, 19:40 IST

The frequent visits of former Army chief General V K Singh to the Shekawati region in Rajasthan has fuelled speculation that he is eyeing the Jhunjhunu Parliament seat which has the largest number of army personnel, serving and retired.

Gen V K Singh, a native of Bapora village, Bhiwani district, Haryana did his schooling from the Birla Public School, Pilani in Jhunjhunu district.

Presently, Congress leader and former Union minister Sis Ram Ola is representing the constituency. The Congress has to look for a suitable candidate as Ola is unlikely to contest due to his old age and Singh may see it as a good opportunity to make his foray into politics as he belongs to the numerically strong Jat community.
