A realtor was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Srinagar bus stand Monday morning. While the police initially attributed the death to a hit and run accident, the family lodged a complaint alleging murder.

The dead has been identified as M Kumar, a resident of Srinagar. Residents in the vicinity said that a sports utility vehicle (SUV) hit the speeding scooter which Kumar was riding, killing him on the spot.

The Hanumanthanagar police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Victoria Hospital. Police said the scooter was found at some distance from the body and that Kumar had suffered severe head injuries. The incident occurred while Kumar was returning home after dropping his children to school.

However, the family members of Kumar alleged that he was hacked to death by unidentified assailants who came in the SUV that hit his scooter. M Siddappa, brother of Kumar, told Deccan Herald that the two-wheeler was not damaged and the accident spot presented a scene of murder. He said Kumar had sustained injuries on the arms and head indicating that he had been hacked to death. However, he was clueless on the perpetrators of the crime.

Kumar was married to Mangala seven years ago and the couple have two children.

Security guard killed

In another incident, a security guard on duty at a temple in Kaggadasapura was stabbed to death early Monday morning. The dead has been identified as Lal Singh Bahadur, 33, a Nepali, working with a private security agency. Police found that the donation box in the temple was robbed.

They suspected that the thieves who struck at the temple might have committed the murder. However, temple authorities clarified that the donation box had money to the tune of only Rs 1,000.
