In a filmi style chase, a gang of 10 men wielding lethal weapons, hacked a man to death in a bylane of Agrahara Dasarahalli in Kamakshipalya on Wednesday morning.

Venugopal alias Venu, 26, a native of Nagaripalli village in Chitoor district of Andhra Pradesh is the dead. He worked in his father’s granite polishing store.

On Wednesday morning, Venu was having tea at a stall near his house when the gang accosted him.

When he tried to flee, the gang chased him and hacked him to death in a narrow bylane near his house.

Venugopal sustained about 17 injuries on his body, police sources said. He was killed on the spot.

One of the shopkeepers who had just opened his shop  saw the assailants chasing Venu.

“He was crying out for help. I think the attackers were known to him, by the way he was calling out names,” he told Deccan Herald on condition of anonymity.

Venu had just gone out of his house after having his breakfast. An inconsolable mother of Venu, Saraswathi and father Govindaraju named a gang led by Tent House Venkatesh and Raghavendra alias Raghu to be responsible for the murder.

“My son was not involved in any rowdy activities. He was being targeted by a rowdy gang led by Venkatesh and Raghavendra. They had registered a false case of assault on my son some months ago. He was recently released on bail and was not into any such activities. Now, they have butchered my only son,” Govindaraju said.

Kamakshipalya police said Venugopal was one of the main accused in an attempt-to-murder case in April.

Two groups had clashed over a trivial issue regarding Annamma festival then and Raghavendra had filed a complaint of assault against Venu.

Subsequently, Venu was arrested and chargesheeted along with three others.
