<p>The State government has failed to identify bonded labourers and rehabilitate them, said Jeethadalu Nirmoolana Zilla Jagriti Samiti member Yogeeshwari Vijay. <br /><br /></p>.<p>At a workshop on rehabilitation of bonded labourers organised at the taluk panchayat auditorium here on Tuesday, she said more than 330 bonded labourers have been identified in the taluk, but only a few of them have been rehabilitated by providing government benefits. Still 102 bonded labourers have been forced to fend for themselves, she said. <br /><br />The organisation’s report on chained bonded labourers in Angaralya in June 2000, foced the government to take note of it. <br /><br />No action yet<br /><br />However, even after a decade, the government is yet to act on a few guidelines suggested by S R Shankar on rehabilitation of bonded labourers. therefore, the practice of bonded labour still prevails in the State, she lamented. <br /><br />Jeevika’s Narayanswamy said the organisation though based in Anekal, has played a pivotal role in eradicating the practice and come out with suggestions on rehabilitation. <br /><br />A play on bonded labourers was staged during the workshop. Tahsildar Mahesh Babu, taluk panchayat executive officer Jayaram and Block Education officer Y C Ravikumar were present. <br /><br /></p>
