BEd colleges force lecturers to boycott evaluation

Bangalore University examination process again got into trouble with BEd college managements forcing lecturers to boycott evaluation.

The university was supposed to start evaluation of the second semester BEd course papers on December 4. However, the college managements have kept the evaluators out of the valuation centres, forcing them to boycott the work.

University acting V-C Rangaswamy told Deccan Herald that college managements that have failed to secure affiliation for the present academic year have been exerting pressure on the evaluators.

Of the more than 100 BEd colleges affiliated to Bangalore University, many were pulled up for poor infrastructure. The task force report recommending disaffiliation of colleges with abysmal infrastructure was recently approved by the University Academic Council.

These colleges risk losing affiliation if the same report is also approved by the University Syndicate. In a bid to mount pressure on the university to grant them affiliation, college managements are disrupting evaluation work, Rangaswamy said.

“We will not bow to pressure tactics. We will not grant them affiliation if they do not comply with the minimum prescribed standards,” he said. Directions have been given to the custodian of evaluation to go ahead with the evaluation of answer scripts as per schedule.

If need be, the evaluation will be done under police protection, he added.
