Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has convened a meeting of the Opposition leaders on Saturday to discuss the composition of an all-party delegation that will present before Prime Minister Mahmohan Singh Karnataka’s distress situation vis-a-vis the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

The team will also plead with Singh to not issue the final notification for implementing the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) award.

The meeting, which will be held at the Chief Minister’s home office Krishna at 3 pm, will finalise the day the delegation would meet the Prime Minister. Leaders of the Opposition Siddaramaiah and H D Revanna (Assembly) and S R Patil and M C Nanaiah (Council) are likely to attend the meeting.

The Cauvery Monitoring Committee had recently informed all the riparian states that the final CWDT award would be notified by the month-end. Shettar had written to Singh urging him to immediately convene the meeting of the Cauvery River Authority to discuss the final CWDT award.

Shettar said the civil suits filed by the riparian states before the Supreme Court against the award were pending. Besides, clarificatory petitions filed before the SWDT too are pending. The final notification should not be issued till the apex court disposes the case.
