The Karnataka government on Wednesday filed an application before the Supreme Court seeking early hearing of its appeal against final award of the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal (CWDT).

In his petition, Karnataka advocate on record V N Raghupathy said the appeal has been pending before the apex court and must therefore be heard soon.

Karnataka had filed a petition in the Supreme Court in 2007 against the Tribunal final award which had asked the state to release 192 tmc of water to Tamil Nadu from its Cauvery river and that quantity of water should be measured at Biligundlu.

Insisting that the award pronounced by CWDT in 2007 would be a burden on the state, Karnataka said the Tribunal failed to take the ground reality into consideration before pronouncing the final award.
