Last Updated 28 January 2013, 19:09 IST

Even as the displaced families of EWS quarters are struggling to find homes, Maverick Holdings Pvt Limited is busy chalking out plans to start the construction process from February 9.

“Once the development plan is approved by the BDA, Maverick Holdings Pvt Limited will begin construction process. The bulldozers have already started leveling the space and fencing the demolished site,” said BBMP Engineer-in-Chief B T Ramesh, on Monday.

The number of evicted residents living on the pavements and streets reduced drastically from 85 to 20 on Monday. According to a few volunteers from civic groups, representatives from Maverick Holdings Pvt Limited visited the site on January 26 and tried to convince people of vacating the place by handing over Rs 2,000.

After much persuasion from residents, they decided to give Rs 5,000. Around 15 to 20 families received the money and left the place.

Meanwhile, RWAs and civic groups met to discuss about the situation prevailing in EWS quarters and finding homes for the remaining families. “The evicted residents will be shifted to economically weaker sections (EWS) quarters at Survey No 122, Sooligunte, Sarjapur.

The building that will be constructed by Karnataka Slum Development Board will house 900 residents. Another 1,512 residents will occupy multi-storeyed residential quarters to be built at EWA quarters site by BBMP and Maverick Holdings Pvt Ltd. Only those who have received biometric cards and have identification cards will get houses,” added Ramesh.
