A 60-year-old man was killed after a speeding car rammed into his scooter at North Delhi’s Roop Nagar on Thursday night, police said.

The incident took place in front of police picket at Shakti Nagar at around 8.30 pm.  A police officer posted at the picket said he was checking the traffic coming from Ghanta Ghar road when he saw a reckless driven Santro car heading towards the picket.

“Just 20 steps ahead of the picket, the Santro car hit a scooter from behind following which the scooterist fell on the ground and became unconscious,” said the officer.

The driver came out of the car and he with the help of policemen rushed the victim to Bara Hindu Rao hospital. Harbhajan Singh, resident of Pritampura, was declared brought dead.

Doctors said Singh received head injuries.

Raj Kumar Sharma, a resident of Rana Partap Bagh in north-west Delhi, was arrested and his vehicle was impounded.

“A case of negligent driving was registered against the accused. The medical test stated that the accused was not drunk,” said the officer.

The victim’s body was handed over to his family after post-mortem, the officer added.
