Diagnosed with cancer, woman ends life

 A homemaker diagnosed with breast cancer committed suicide by hanging herself in MC Layout, Vijayanagar on Sunday night.

According to police, Rathna, 37, was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple of months ago and she had slipped into depression since then. She was married to Srinivas, an electric contractor and the couple had two children.

Rathna hanged herself from the ceiling fan after her family members went to sleep on Sunday night. The death came to light on Monday morning. Police said, in a death note purportedly left behind by Rathna, she has said that she was ending her life after coming to know that she had breast cancer.

Woman cop kills self

Dhanalakshmi, 28, a constable attached to Banasawadi police station committed suicide by consuming poison at her Hegde Nagar house. She hailed from Madhugiri and had joined the police force in 2009. She had separated from her husband, Elagaraj, four years ago. The couple had two children.

Dhanalakshmi and her two children were living with Gangadhar, a security guard at the Hegde Nagar police quarters for the past one year.

According to the police, the two had a tiff on Saturday night, following which Gangadhar left home in a huff. A depressed Dhanalakshmi is learnt to have consumed rat poison. Some time later, Gangadhar returned home and found Dhanalakshmi writhing in pain. He rushed her to a nearby private hospital where she died Sunday night.

Thimmakka, the mother of Dhanalakshmi, has lodged a complaint accusing Gangadhar of harassing her daughter. Gangadhar has been absconding, police added.


Jail term for rape
The fifth fast track court has awarded a 10-year jail term for a youth convicted for attempt to murder, abduction and rape.

Suresh, 21, a resident of Uttarahalli, was accused of raping a woman in January 2012. He had assaulted the father of the woman who attempted to save his daughter. Subramanyapura police had filed a charge sheet.
