Man held for raping daughter

Married thrice, suspect is a father of four

The Tavarekere police have arrested a man, thrice married and father of four children, for allegedly raping his teenage daughter.

The third wife of the suspect - a construction worker - had lodged a complaint on Tuesday alleging that he had been raping his 13-year-old daughter from the first marriage for a long time and that she had come to know about it on Monday.

The complainant stated that of late, the girl had become an introvert and when questioned, she disclosed the ghastly act of her father. The victim, in her statement to the police, has stated that she was being raped by her father for a long time and more often in the past one year. She suffered silently fearing the wrath of her father as he had threatened her with dire consequences.

The girl was on Wednesday taken to Vani Vilas Hospital for a medical examination. Police sources say the doctors confirmed rape and that the girl had been sexually abused for a long time. After the death of his first wife from whom he had a daughter, the suspect married twice and has three children from the two later marriages.

He was arrested on Wednesday produced before a magistrate court, which remanded in judicial custody.
