Briefing reporters, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said “The CCEA has decided to go for disinvestment of five per cent paid up equity capital of NTPC out of the government’s shareholding, in the domestic market through book building process. After this disinvestment the government shareholding in the firm would come down to 84.50 per cent,” he said. Further, the minister indicated that some percentage of the proposed divestment would be sold to employees of the company to promote ‘inclusiveness’ of shareholding of the people at large.

In another decision the CCEA approved disinvestment of 10 per cent equity of Sat Jal Vidyut Nigal Limited (SJVNL) out of its shareholding, through book building process in the domestic market. After this disinvestment, Center’s shareholding in the company would come down to 65 per cent. There have also been reports suggesting blue-chip PSUs like NMDC, NTPC, BHEL etc as candidates for stake sales.
