Fight over alimony ends in murder

Jyothi, 25, was allegedly killed by her husband Nagaraj, 29, on Friday, after she reportedly demanded Rs 2 lakh as divorce settlement.

Jyothi was from Mandya and Nagaraj from Chamarajanagar. The couple, married in 2011, were residing at Gavipuram Guttahalli. However, a year into the marriage, the police claim, Nagaraj got suspicious of Jyothi’s alleged extra-marital affair with Prakash, who hailed from her native place. When confronted, Jyothi reportedly confessed to it and a year ago, the two were estranged.

However, a few months ago, Nagaraj sought divorce from her, to which, he claims, Jyothi agreed but on payment of Rs two lakh, else she would lodge a fake complaint of dowry harassment against him.

Roiled over his wife’s demand, Nagaraj took her to Bangalore University campus near Gandhi Bhavan on Friday afternoon and stabbed her to death with a knife. Jnanbharathi police have registered a case under Section 302 IPC.

Jyothi’s body was sent for postmortem to Victoria hospital and later handed over to her family.

Trader ends life

Radhakrishna, a native of Tamil Nadu, was found hanging from the ceiling of his photocopying shop in B Narayanapura. While the exact reason for his suicide was not ascertained, the police, however, suspect debt may have driven him to take the extreme step.

The incident came to light when a storekeeper peeped through the window and found Radhakrishna hanging from the ceiling. A few shopowners, along with the public, broke open the door.

The family searched for Radhakrishna when he did not return home on Thursday evening, but they did not lodged a missing complaint. The body was handed over to the family after post mortem. Mahadevapura Police have registered a case and are investigating.

Three killed in accidents

Three men, one of them a software professional, were killed in separate accidents in the City on Friday night.

Vijay Kota from Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, an employee of a leading IT firm in the City, was killed when a speeding sports utility vehicle hit his scooter on the Govindachettypalya Cross service road in Konappana Agrahara. Kota sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died. Electronics City traffic police registered a case and arrested the driver of the SUV.

In another accident, a private security guard posted at a school, was killed in an head-on collision between two bikes at Doddanekkundi. Lakshmaiah Reddy was knocked down by a speeding bike when he was returning home after finishing the day's work. The bike rider also suffered injuries and is being treated at a private hospital. KR Puram traffic police have registered a case.

In yet another accident, a lorry mowed down a BPO employee when he was crossing the road near underpass of the flyover at Dairy Circle on Bannerghatta Road on Saturday morning. Mohammed Jilani (31),  son of an assistant sub-inspector of police from Bellary and resident of JP Nagar, was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he was declared brought dead, police said.

Woman ends life

The body of a 27-year-old homemaker was found hanging in her house in Sriramapuram on Friday night.

The dead has been identified as Mangalagowri, married to Srinivas, a flower decorator, four years ago. The police suspected that  marital disharmony was the reason while her family members alleged that harassment by Srinivas’ family members forced her to take extreme step.

Korangu’s aides arrested

The sleuths from the CCB Organised Crime Wing recently conducted a surprise raid in Kumaraswamy Layout and apprehended four associates of notorious rowdy Korangu Krishna. The arrested are George J V, 29, Rajappaji, 25, Suresh Kumar, 23, and Manu, 19. The police have recovered an SUV, a scooter and lethal weapons from the arrested. Kumaraswamy Layout police have registered a case.
