Land grabbing: Resorts chief arrested

Last Updated 05 March 2013, 20:44 IST

The Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force on Tuesday arrested the chairman of Shakti Hills Resorts for allegedly encroaching six acres of government land at Vaddarapalya.

BMTF sources said Arunachalam (60), a resident of Rajarajeshwari Nagar, had allegedly grabbed the land at least eight years ago. There was no action on a complaint lodged with RR Nagar police in 2007.
Recently the complainant, whose name has been held back by the BMTF authorities for safety reasons, approached the Task Force and lodged a fresh complaint. Subsequently, the BMTF took up the case from the local police and began investigation.

On Tuesday the BMTF registered a case against Arunachalam under Sections 120 (B), 420, 447 read with 34 of the IPC, and Section 192 (a) of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act (KLRA) and arrested him. The accused was later produced before the judicial magistrate first class where he reportedly got the bail.
