Drum beating goes on, fills Palike coffers

The drum beating exercise in front of Gem Plaza on Infantry Road fetched Rs 50 lakh for the BBMP on Wednesday.

Palike sources said the Infantry Hotel Gem Plaza owes about Rs 1.6 crore as property tax to the BBMP. The hotel has not paid the property tax since 2008-09.

When the drum beating was carried out, the owner came out and issued a cheque of Rs 50 lakh while agreeing to pay the balance amount shortly.

Drum beating was also carried out at Ramada Hotel in Shivaji Nagar which owes about Rs 27 lakh.
The owner of the hotel too agreed to pay the taxes at the earliest.
