A youth has been arrested for killing a man over personal enmity after kidnapping him from west Delhi’s Mundka last year, police said on Thursday.

Rohit, 22, of Sawada Ghewra J J Colony and his friends Karambir and Nanha had kidnapped Sandeep Singh, 30, on July 30. “He disclosed that Sandeep was killed over Gramin Sewa vehicles being run by them on the same route,” said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south).

They took Sandeep to Haryana, where they beat him up with iron rods and hockey sticks. They slit his throat and dumped him in HUDA Canal.

A kidnapping case was lodged against Rohit, Karambir and Nanha over Sandeep’s brother Sujit’s statement with Mundka police station on July 31, but the accused were absconding.
On Wednesday, a team of Vasant Kunj South police station was patrolling near Rajokari Flyover when Rohit was spotted in a suspicious condition.

“Seeing police, Rohit tried to escape, but was apprehended. A country-made pistol and two cartridges were recovered from him,” Sharma added. A case under Arms Act has been registered against with Vasant Kunj South police station.

Rohit revealed his involvement in Sandeep’s murder and in a gang rape case lodged with Kanjhawala police station. He was in jail for 18 months in the gang rape case.

Sandeep was targeted after Karambir was beaten up at Nangloi Chowk on July 28. Karambir was operating a Gramin Sewa vehicle on the same route as of Sandeep, his brother Sanjeet and a man named Bintoo.

Karambir narrated the attack to friends Rohit, Nanhe, Vikas, Deepak and Sanu Khan. “They all decided to take revenge, and gathered on Ghewra-Kanjhawla Road on July 30. They abducted Sandeep and took him near HUDA Canal in a car,” Sharma said. Sandeep was subsequently killed.
