A host of events were held as part of the two-day fest technical fest conducted by the department of computer science at BMS College of Engineering, ‘Avalanche 2013’.

Events such as online treasure hunt, best manager, roadies finals, SAP seminar, ‘hogathon’, an entertainment quiz, a short-film competition, ‘tech poker’ and ‘tech guru’ were conducted, and witnessed quite a bit of participation.

Ashwin, one of the organisers of the fest, says that putting together an event of this scale was a tough task.

“The fest had to be strategically scheduled to ensure maximum participation from other colleges. We had very little time and had to rope in as many sponsors as we could. Five fests had taken place in our college the previous week and we had to ensure that students saw enough reason to come again for ours. We toiled for two whole weeks to put it together and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. The fest was a runaway hit,” he notes.

The members of the organising team agree that putting together the fest was a different experience.

One of them, Srinivas, says that ‘Avalanche’ has been an important part of his college life but this year, he had an especially great time being on the team.

“The whole feeling of being in the ‘Avalanche’ mode was very exciting. After a lot of brainstorming, we narrowed in on two dates for the fest. We collected enough funds through sponsorship and campaigned to make this the biggest ‘Avalanche’ ever. After overcoming all the minor hurdles in our way, we were all set for the day,” he says.
Students flocked to the various event venues, putting in their best to showcase their skills on stage.

Sonal Kothari, a final-year participant, laments the fact that this will be the last time she is taking part in the
fest.

“‘Avalanche’ was an amazing technical fest, which gave students the opportunity to connect and share knowledge. As a participant, I was amazed to see the level of participation and competition the fest had to offer. The fest has nurtured each one of us and has made us more skilful,” she sums up.
