Pothole proves fatal for young IT staffer

A pothole-ridden road claimed the life of a young IT staffer and left another injured, at Jayanagar 9th Block on Thursday night.

The dead is identified as Ashwin, 21, from Tamil Nadu, who stayed with his friend Karthik from Shimoga at BTM Layout.

Both had come to the City six months ago and joined a multinational IT company as trainees, police said.

The accident took place when the two were returning home. Karthik, who was riding the bike, lost balance while negotiating potholes on the road and the bike skidded off.

The two fell down and came under the wheels of a speeding water tanker and Ashwin was killed on the spot, said the police. The tanker driver has been arrested.

Guard killed

In another accident, a security guard of a private firm was killed as a two-wheeler mowed him down on Thursday night. Janardhan Sahani, 55, was returning home at Gurappanapalya, after finishing his duty as a security supervisor on East End Main Road when the accident took place.

The police have arrested Tabrez Ahmed for his alleged rash and negligent driving that killed Sahani.

Couple robbed

Two unidentified people followed a couple in an autorickshaw, allegedly robbed them of a gold chain and Rs one lakh in cash in Tilaknagar police limits Thursday night.

The incident occurred when Jalajakshi, a resident of Jayanagar 9th Block, was returning home with her husband after shopping for household articles. 

The suspects followed the couple in the autorickshaw and robbed the couple of their chain and money, before fleeing, police said.
