<p>A one-year suspension of six DMDK MLAs’, led by the party’s chief whip in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Chandrakumar, was on Tuesday reduced to six months by the Speaker.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The Speaker announced the reduced sentence against the MLAs belonging to actor-politician Vijayakant’s party after Chief Minister J Jayalalitha urged the Chair to reduce it to six months. <br /><br />Earlier, several opposition party leaders in the House appealed for reconsidering the suspension as they felt a one-year period was too long and harsh. The Privileges Committee had earlier gone into the issue on the basis of which the decision was taken.</p>
