Raj Kumari Singh, the panchayat chief of Daulatpur village, where the 1.383 hectare land of Bachchan was situated, told reporters on Saturday that “land” once gifted to the gram sabha cannot be gifted to anybody else.

Jaya Prada termed the ‘gift’ to the Foundation executed in Barabanki on Friday “illegal,” and said that she would soon file a formal objection against it. “It is a violation of Uttar Pradesh land laws,” she alleged further.

The land had earlier been gifted to the local gram sabha after Bachchan found himself in the midst of controversy and court cases on the ground of the procedure of acquisition of the said land.

Bachchan and his family members had laid the foundation stone for a proposed college, named after his daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in January 2007, in the presence of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Amar Singh, Chandra Babu Naidu and Farooque Abdullah.
