CPM releases 16 names

The Communist Party of India—Marxist (CPM), on Saturday, released the list of 16 candidates for the polls scheduled on May 5.

Briefing reporters, CPM State secretariat member G N Nagaraj said the number of candidates is more compared to earlier polls. Accordingly candidates will contest from Bangalore Urban, Bangalore rural, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Mandya, Bellary, Koppal and Gulbarga districts. The party will contest from four constituencies each in Kolar and Dakshina Kannada districts.

In Kolar, G V Srirama Reddy will contest from Bagepalli, C S Ashwath from Gowribidanur, C Gopinath from Chintamani and P Thangaraj from KGF. In Dakshina Kannada district, Vasanth Achari will contest from Mangalore South, Krishnappa Salian from Mangalore City, while B M Bhat and K Shankar will contest from Belthangdi and Byndoor, respectively.

In Bellary, it will be fielding Shivashankar from Kampli and R Bhaskar Reddy from Hospet, while Maruthi Manpade will contest from Gulbarga Rural on CPI (M) ticket. R Chandra Tejasvi will contest from Doddaballapur and Gowramma will try her luck from K R Puram in Bangalore. Party’s Polit Bureau members, Seetharam Yerchuri and Brinda Karat, along with leaders from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will campaign for candidates, he said adding the party will highlight corruption by both Congress-led UPA at the Centre and ruling BJP in the State while seeking votes.

There is no alliance with JD(S) in this Assembly elections, but the party will have an alliance with like-minded allies CPI and Forward block, he added.
