Tanker mishap victim dies,toll touches 9

Vimala, 29, one of the six persons who was admitted to Fr Muller Hospital in a critical condition following the Perne tanker mishap, breathed her last in the hospital on Friday. With this, the death toll has risen to nine.

Vimala, an anganwadi teacher, had come to her friend Indira Rai’s house minutes before the mishap. Though both Indira and Vimala ran to safety after the mishap, the fire engulfed both. Vimala suffered 80 per cent burn injuries, while Indira suffered 60 per cent burn injuries.

Indira and Hajeema’s condition is said to be critical, while another victim Safiya, who suffered 30 per cent burns, is undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Puttur.
