A 13-year-old girl allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming sedatives in east Delhi’s Farsh Bazar on Saturday apparently over police inaction after eight persons gang raped her last month.

A case was lodged only after her family approached court.

The girl is undergoing treatment at Dr Hedgewar Aarogya Sansthan, and her condition is stated to be out of danger.

According to the victim’s family, she was kidnapped and gang raped by eight persons on March 15. The incident took place when she was with her brother.

Her family has accused the concerned investigation officer and station house officer of offering bribe to stay silent and not to file an FIR.

Dereliction of duty

They said police were reluctant to take their daughter for medical checkup due to which they had to approach a Delhi court.

The girl was kidnapped from Farsh Bazar and anxious family members approached police when she did not return home.

A case of missing person was lodged, but she was untraceable.

Later, on March 25, the girl returned and revealed that she was kidnapped by eight persons. She was taken to Loni area in Ghaziabad, where they held her hostage and took turns to rape her.

Shocked family members called police but they were not ready to take her to hospital for the medical test.

Allegations

“IO Bipin Kumar and SHO Farsh Bazar warned us that our family will be defamed if we got an FIR of gang rape registered. When we approached a Delhi court, which ordered the cops for the medical test, they went ahead and her medical examination was conducted on April 12. It established rape,” said the family.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer said, they are looking into the allegations leveled by the victim’s family.
