A businessman was robbed at gunpoint of Rs 3.5 lakh by two motorcycle-borne assailants at south-east Delhi’s New Friends Colony, police said on Wednesday.

Mohammad Mukhtar lives with his family at Jamia Nagar and runs a garment factory at Tughlakabad.

Police said Mukhtar was on his way home from the factory when the incident took place on Monday evening.

“Mukhtar had reached near New Friends Colony main market when the chain of events began. He claimed that two men on a motorcycle followed his car and forced him to stop,” said a police officer.

In his statement to police, Mukhtar said the men were armed and threatened him with consequences.

They searched the car and got hold of a bag containing Rs 3.5 lakh in cash.
“They then fled with the money,” the officer added.

Mukhtar later sought help from New Friends Colony police station. A case of robbery under Indian Penal Code and Arms Act has been filed over Mukhtar’s statement.
Police are yet to identify the robbers. Local criminals having previous similar modus operandi are being verified and apart from that, Mukhtar’s relatives and employees are also being called up for interrogation.
