The case of alleged gang-rape of a 19-year-old nursing student took a new turn on Thursday with the Ashok Nagar police claiming it was a case of consensual sex.

“It is not gang-rape. The victim had consensual sex with three men. The girl and a youth from Kerala, Srikanth, have been in a relationship for the last four months.

She cooked up the gang-rape story as she did not know what to say when her warden asked the reason for her ill health after she reached her hostel,” an investigating officer told Deccan Herald.

Police claim that the three men might have had sex with the girl in an inebriated state. The victim was subjected to medical examination at St John’s Hospital and the swab samples sent for test at the Forensic Science Laboratory, the officer said.

The police constituted a special team to apprehend the three youths after the girl lodged a complaint and the cops picked them up from Kerala on Thursday.

Srikanth, 24, and Vinod, 25, both from Alapuzha district in Kerala, and Nitin, 25, of Dandupalya in Hoskote, are the arrested.

Srikanth is into cellphone sales and services business, Nitin is a staff nurse at Hoskote, and Vinod is an UPS inverter mechanic, police said.

The girl and the three are friends.

All the four wanted to go to a homestay on the City outskirts and spend some time together.

They consumed liquor on reaching the place. The men dropped her back near the hostel and she told her roommate she was not keeping well. When the warden asked her the reason for her ill-health, she claimed three men abducted and raped her at an unidentified house.

She lodged a complaint on the insistence of the warden, police said.
