8 Kashmiris crack civil services exam

Eight Kashmiris have made it to the final list of selected candidates in the Civil Services Examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.

Syed Sehrish Asgar, who had made it to the civil services last year improved her rank from 118 to 23. 

Showkat Ahmad Parray from Barmulla district, who was selected for the Indian Police Service in 2011, made it to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) by bagging the 41st rank.Other candidates from the Valley who cracked the exam include Khurshid Ali Qadri–95th rank, Naveed Tramboo–386th rank, Abid Sadiq–501st rank, Amanullah Tak–571st rank and Dr Ruveda Salam Bajjad–820th rank.

In the last few years dozens of Kashmiri candidates have qualified in the prestigious examination.  In 2010, Shah Faisal, a Kashmiri doctor, hit the headlines for creating history by becoming the first Kashmiri to top the exam.

Faisal had lost his father more than a decade ago when militants shot him down in the frontier district of Kupwara.
