Firebrand BJP leader Varun Gandhi, who is likely to contest from Sultanpur Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday dropped enough hints that he was prepared for the political battle in the neighbouring Raebareli and Amethi parliamentary constituencies.

Addressing a public meeting at Sultanpur, Varun made an all out attempt to establish an emotional chord with the people by invoking the memories of his father Sanjay Gandhi and referring to the death of his newborn daughter. He said the constituency was like ‘home’ to him.

“I have come back home. We have been in grief lately. God took away my daughter from me, but I have so many children here,” Varun said before an impressive gathering.
Though he did not categorically declared that he would be a candidate from this constituency in the next general elections, he said he would abide by the decision of the party high command in this regard.

He said this place had been his father’s karmabhoomi (work place).
“I have worked with many people from this area,” he added.

“The decision to contest from here will not only affect the politics in Sultanpur but also in the nearby areas,” the BJP leader said.

Incidentally, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi Lok Sabha seat falls under Sultanpur district. Amethi had been made a separate district but the state government’s notification to this effect had recently been quashed by the high court.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s Raebareli Lok Sabha seat lies in the neighbourhood.
Varun also heaped praise on former Bharatiya Janata Party national chief Nitin Gadkari present there. He said he had learnt a lot from Gadkari.
