<p>A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar on Thursday. The accused has been arrested, police said on Friday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The victim lives with her family in a rented house and is a class 10 student in a nearby government school.<br /><br />Police said she stays with her mother and two brothers, but was alone when the incident took place on Thursday.<br /><br />“The accused has been identified as Arvind, who is a driver and well acquainted with the victim’s family,” a police officer said.<br /><br />Sources said the house taken on rent by the victim’s family belonged to Arvind’s brother-in-law.<br /><br />A police probe found that Arvind was aware of the family members’ routine. He had seen the victim’s mother leaving the house on Thursday, and knew that she had gone to a nearby market.<br /><br />“Arvind knew that victim’s mother would take time to return home. As he was good friends with the victim’s brothers, he gained a friendly entry into the house,” the officer added.<br /><br />“The accused then forced himself upon the victim and raped her. He fled from the house after threatening her with dire consequences,” the officer said.<br /><br />The girl told police that she raised an alarm, but her screams for help were not heard by neighbours. She narrated the ordeal when her mother returned home.<br /><br />Her mother approached police after which the girl’s statement was recorded.<br />“She was taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where medical examination confirmed sexual assault,” the officer added.<br /><br />A case of rape has been registered.<br /><br />Arvind, who was arrested late on Thursday, also faces charges under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences POCSO Act.<br /></p>
