OWI offers internship for NIE students

The Oel-Waerme-Institut GmbH (OWI), affiliated to Aachen University of Germany, has offered internship to five students of Mechanical Engineering Department of the National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysore, during June-August 2013. This offer has been made for the second year in succession.

Five Mechanical Engineering students and one Industrial and Production Engineering student had interned for eight weeks during June-August 2012.

The internship programme is one of the key features of the collaborative agreement signed between NIE, OWI-Germany and Nathan & Nathan Consulting, Bangalore, in 2011.

The three partners have agreed to collaborate to strengthen competencies in the areas of renewable energy technologies, automobile technology and automation technologies. The three core areas of operations will be training and consultancy, science and technology, and leadership and business incubation.

Four students of 6th semester, Abhishek R Shetty, Aashish V Bhat, Karthik Kashyap S and Sachin N will undergo eight weeks internship, while Jeevan Dasan, a student of 8th semester will undergo 10 months internship. The students will work in the areas of bio-fuels, fuel cells, combustion studies, corrosion studies, control engineering, analytics and numerical simulation. The internees will get OWI scholarships.

The invitation letters were handed over to the students at a function at NIE recently by Klaus Lucka, Managing Director of OWI. S R Subba Rao, President, NIE Management Committee (NIEMC), S L Ramachandra, Honorary Secretary, NIEMC, S K Lakshminarayana, Honorary Treasurer, NIEMC, G L Shekar, Principal, NIE, and N V Raghavendra, HoD, Mechanical Engineering Department, were present on the occasion.
