Priests advised CM to give up 'jinxed' portfolio

Last Updated 01 November 2009, 18:04 IST

The CM had handed over the portfolio to Home Minister V S Acharya on Saturday, soon after returning from Kukke Subrahmanya.

It is said that the priests told him to relieve himself of the portfolio immediately so that he could come out of the present crisis successfully. The portfolio became jinxed after Krishnaiah Setty and Somanna suffered a setback in their political career. Even in the past those held the portfolio did not succeed in the immediate next elections.
The list of such ministers include Harnahalli Ramaswamy, Muniyappa, Raja Amaresh Naik, Baburao Chinchansur, M P Prakash, Suma Vasanath and Nagaraj Shetty. It is said that the CM chose Acharya for the post as he is an MLC and chances of he loosing in the election are lesser compared to MLAs in the Cabinet.

However, MLC Ganesh Karnik who accompanied the CM in his visit to Kukke Subrahmanya said that there was no such suggestion from the priests there. “I was with the Chief  Minister when he met the priest.

The priest glanced through his jataka (horoscope) and suggested a few special poojas for his welfare. There was no suggestion to give up the Muzrai department,” he said.
