In an energetic and fun evening of music, ‘Girish and the Chronicles’, a rock band that started off in Gangtok, presented a rock ‘n’ roll tribute at the Courtyard in Phoenix MarketCity. Formed in 2009, the band has gained popularity over the years for spanning genres like hard rock, blues and even heavy metal. They have won college fests, participated in various ‘battle of the bands’ and performed at reputed music festivals.

But given that this was a tribute gig, the band handpicked songs that would be appreciated by any lover of rock music of the 60s and 70s, featuring some of the best bands from that era. They paid a tribute to ‘Pink Floyd’ with songs like ‘Coming Back To Life’, ‘Wall’ and ‘Time’, while ‘The Beatles’ were remembered with popular songs like ‘Day Tripper’ and ‘Ballad to John and Yoko’.

Led Zepellin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’ received a good response as did Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Purple Haze’. Two original compositions — ‘Angel’s Angel’ and ‘A New Beginning’ were also on the cards.

The band comprised frontman Girish Pradhan, drummer Nagen Mongranti, lead guitarist Suraz Karki and guitarist-keyboardist Yogesh Pradhan. Having recently shifted base from their home in Gangtok to Bangalore, the members were more than elated at the response they got. “It was an amazing experience considering we genuinely weren’t expecting the crowd to hang around for the whole show. We feel fortunate to have such a strong fan following who loves our music in a new city. I would especially like to thank our friends and people from social media sites who showed up in great numbers to support us,” says Girish. The audience was extremely vocal about their appreciation and sang along and cheered for the band throughout the show. “I have seen this band perform a few years ago and they are much better now. They sound good, know their music and have great energy on stage. It was fun to watch them,” says Norbu, who attended the concert.
