The State government will consider widening of seven roads in the City based on the recommendations of traffic police, City in-charge minister Ramalinga Reddy has said.

The roads being considered for widening are: stretch between Mekhri Circle and BDA Head Office (Bellary Road), Dairy Circle to Sagar Apollo Hospital (Bannerghatta Road), Bennaganahalli-Mahadevapura stretch (KR Puram Road), Mission Road or Devanga Hostel Road (near Hudson Circle), Thanisandra Junction (ORR), Silk Board-29th Main (near Jayadeva Hospital) and Hebbal flyover. M A Saleem, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), has suggested widening of these roads to tackle traffic congestion on the stretches. The Palike will study the financial implications before embarking on the project.

The minister said acquisition of properties would be minimum or nil for road widening, and the exercise will be completed in the next two to four months.

Reddy said that according to the Palike commissioner, of the 33,000 potholes on City roads close to 20,000 have been filled and the rest will be filled up in the coming days. Reddy said a bicycle track was being constructed in Madivala at a cost of Rs eight crore and it was being planned to replicate the project in HSR Layout, Indiranagar and Sadashivanagar.
